Oregon Employment Department Job Listing

Oregon Employment Department Job Listing
The Oregon Employment Department has been alerted to a scam targeting job seekers.
There have been at least two reported cases of individuals receiving phone calls from someone identifying themselves from “WorkSource." The caller states they need the individual’s social security number to perform a background check on the job seeker’s work history.  One of the job seekers was also asked for their debit card number to cover an alleged $99 fee for the background check.
It is not the policy of WorkSource Oregon to contact job seekers in this manner.  WorkSource Oregon does not ask for personally identifiable information, such as social security numbers, for the purpose of performing a work background check, nor does WorkSource Oregon charge any fees to job seekers.
Anyone who receives a call from someone identifying themselves from “WorkSource” or WorkSource Oregon requesting this information should contact the Oregon Attorney General Consumer Fraud Hotline immediately at 1-877-877-9392, or e-mail consumer.hotline@doj.state.or.us.
E-mail Scam Targets Employers
Authorities from several states are reporting an e-mail scam targeting employers. The e-mail message, designed to glean confidential information from employers, comes with the subject line "Action Required-Time Sensitive Material."
The e-mail will state that a former employee has recently filed for unemployment benefits and in order to process the claim, the Employment Department needs information about each former employee.
Be aware that the Oregon Employment Department does not seek information in this manner.  Should you receive an e-mail of this nature, do not respond, but do notify the office of the Attorney General.
Update on Extensions
On February 22, 2012, President Obama signed legislation to modify Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) through the end of 2012. The new legislation does not add any additional funds for individuals who have already exhausted EUC it extends the filing dates in which an eligible individual can apply.
